The Reading Detectives

The Reading Detectives...Ready for Action!

The students (aka. reading detectives) have earned their badges and are working diligently to uncover the clues in their book club books.  Warning...they suspect everyone, even ME! Both books are exciting and have a lot of clues and suspects.  Ask your child to tell you about their book club book.  If they tell you they can't talk about their case, tell them Chief Horst said it was OK.

Detective Boot Camp!

We have had a great first week of Detective Boot Camp in our literacy class. The students have been working hard in order to earn their reading detective badge. To earn their badge, the students have been going through an intense bootcamp where they are learning how to identify the crime solver(s), the client, and what is the mystery. We have been analyzing clues on several practice cases and learning how a clue must be a fact and not an opinion. We have stressed that all the characters need to be examined before the case is closed. The students have all taken a very important oath not to look at the end of their mystery stories to try and find the answers! Take a look at the following pictures of the detectives in training working in groups or with a partner to examine clues...

Detectives Glenn, Hayes and Kness in Training
Detectives Taylor and Schneider in Training

We Love to Read

There is nothing more rewarding than having a group of students that love to read! Today we finished our lesson early so the students got to visit their book bins and read their "just right" books. I hope everyone has a wonderful spring break!

The students in Mrs. Horst's literacy class have worked hard researching a famous person and creating a puppet of their person for their biography book report.  Take a look at the pictures.  Amazing work!
